Eggs can help you beat stress!

April 2 2018

April marks Stress Awareness Month. In a busy world, overwhelmed by technology – Stress Awareness Month is a perfect excuse to step back to look at our busy lives and ask how we can take more time for ourselves.

The good news is that Eggs are one of the key foods to help improve your mood.

Serotonin, known as the “happy hormone”, is a chemical messenger that’s believed to act as a mood stabiliser that can aid healthy sleeping patterns and boost your mood.

The most natural way to increase serotonin levels, is to eat foods that contain tryptophan. Tryptophan depletion is seen in those with mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.

The protein in eggs significantly boosts blood plasma levels of tryptophan. The yolks especially are rich in tryptophan.

The other key nutrients, minerals & vitamins in eggs can help improve your mood.

  • B vitamins play a role in the production of serotonin: Eggs have Vitamin B2 & B12
  • Omega 3 fatty acids naturally increase a potent mood lifting, anti-depressant neurotransmitter in our brain, called dopamine: Our Boost the Roost Eggs have high levels of DHA Omega 3
  • The connection between Vitamin D deficiency and low mood is well established and we should aim to eat vitamin D rich foods: Eggs have Vitamin D
