Compostable Egg Box Garden

Compostable Egg Box Garden

All our egg cartons are made from 100% recovered paper, if you look closely you can sometimes see old newspaper print. They are also fully compostable and biodegradable.  Whilst they make a fine addition to the compost or wormery. You could use them as seedling trays, helping to reduce your plastic consumption.

    Ingredients

    • 1 St Ewe Egg Carton (pick your favourite colour)
    • 500 g peat-free Compost
    • 1 tsp seeds (selection of mixed seeds can be great to harvest like cress as micro-greens... including coriander, beetroot, chard, fennel, basil)

    Method

    1. Reuse old egg cartons as seedling trays for planting. Fill each egg space with compost and place on a tray.
    2. Sprinkle seeds over the compost and cover with a shallow sprinkle more. Water well and leave on a window sill or in a sunny spot. They look beautiful in our colourful boxes!
    3. When the seeds sprout you can harvest them with scissors as a colourful and tasty garnish approx 1-2 weeks after they have grown to sprinkle over poached eggs, scrambled eggs or your salads.
    4. Alternatively use them as seedling trays, helping to reduce your plastic consumption. Once the seeds sprout you can plant them straight into the ground, as the cardboard will break down in the soil as the plant grow.
