The Great British Food Revolution

May 25 2020

With Brexit and the Covid-19 epidemic set to alter the way we think about our relationship with food, its provenance, our health and our well-being; the light has never shone so bright on Great British producers to deliver. Now is the time to really show what the Great in Great Britain means and to start a Great British Food Revolution and rise from the ashes a stronger and more mindful nation – together we are united!

The Great British Food Revolution is about championing British produce, the hard working, dedicated, world class producers behind it and bringing some positivity and unity to the despondency many of us are feeling at present.

What we choose to eat and where that food comes from has never been so important and it is a well known fact that eggs are one of the most nutritionally dense, economical and delicious foods you can get!

NUTRITION

‘You are what you eat’ is never truer than for a hen’s digestive system. Our hen’s gut health and overall well-being is crucial to make sure they lay beautifully nutritious, rich tasting St Ewe eggs. We have a specialist and unique feed which has been developed using locally sourced materials; ensuring the hens’ have the right mix of nutrients and minerals.

Understanding the hen’s digestive system has allowed us to innovate. We have developed bespoke diets with different combinations of nutrients, minerals and pigments, which in turn has allowed us to bring unique brands to market, such as Rich Yolk and Boost The Roost.

QUALITY

The chicken comes first! Welfare, nutrition and care of our hens is key. We have over thirty years experience as poultry farmers.

Our farms are British Lion Coded, RSPCA Assured and Salsa accredited, to make sure we work to the highest standards at all times. We have a total of 10 Stars from The Great Taste and Taste of the West Awards. We are also Vegetarian Society Approved.

VALUES

Our family farming values carry through everything we do, it’s what we know best. We use traditional farming methods on our home farm. We support family farms and employ local people. We support the local community through regular donations of our eggs to food banks.

We work to minimise any wastage on the farm, all our hen’s eggs have a home from our pullets and smalls in our Hen Picked range, or our seconds with misshapen shells being used in our pasteuriser to create liquid egg for catering outlets.

To reduce our carbon footprint our packing centre is powered by solar energy. We consolidate transport and our cartons are made from recycled, compostable materials.

Eating ourselves healthy has never been so important and as well as a balanced diet, choosing British and helping to support our farmers, producers and packers is vital. Without your support we cannot survive and provide you with the high quality, high welfare food you are fueling yours and your family’s bodies with.

Consumer psyche has shifted dramatically over the past few months and our lives have been upended in the blink of an eye and yet, although this first phase has generated uncertainty and worry for many, the positivity that is coming out of it is truly inspiring. Stay Positive. Stay Healthy. Stay British!
