Cornwall based St. Ewe Free Range Eggs will be attempting a Guinness World Record this summer as they set out to walk the 300 miles of Cornwall’s iconic coastline endeavouring to set the record for the World’s Longest Egg & Spoon Race; raising funds and awareness for Hospitality Action and Cornwall Air Ambulance.
The event was inspired following the events of the past three years with Covid-19, Brexit and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis wreaking untold havoc on the farming, food production, hospitality and tourism sectors.
Cornwall as a region has been particularly impacted by these events, and behind the buckets and spades of this ever-popular tourist destination are the untold stories of hardship and struggle the farming, food and hospitality industry has had to face in order to stay afloat.
As a result of this, St Ewe Eggs has decided to support two worthwhile charities through its world record attempt, which both worked hard to help people through the pandemic. St. Ewe Eggs will use the record attempt to not only bring together the local community, but to allow the hospitality, food and farming industry to have their voice heard and raise much needed funds for these two pivotal charities.
Mark Lewis, Chief Executive at Hospitality Action says: “There’s no denying times are incredibly challenging for the hospitality sector; each day brings news of more business closures, putting thousands of jobs in jeopardy. Our services help hospitality people pick up the pieces after a setback, and we are grateful to everyone who reaches out to support our work. To achieve a Guinness World Record is both incredible and inspiring, and we wish everyone taking part the very best of luck.”
Tim Bunting, Chief Executive at Cornwall Air Ambulance, comments: “Events like this are key in helping us to raise awareness and vital funds for Cornwall Air Ambulance. Each year we’re called out to over 1,000 incidents, and one in five of those are to visitors to the area. Summer is our busiest time, as when the population increases so do our call outs, therefore, it’s great that we can work with local businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector to help promote the great work of our crew, staff and volunteers. We are extremely grateful that St Ewe Eggs have chosen to hold the Great Cornish Egg and Spoon Race in aid of us and we’re very much looking forward to the egg-citing event.”
The event will take place between the 3rd and 7th of July with two teams racing to the Land’s End finish line. Along the way, there will be handover points where local businesses will be hosting foodie pop-ups where the public can come and ‘egg-on’ the teams.

The egg industry itself has been under huge pressure over the last 3 years and we would like to highlight how extraordinary and nutritious eggs are, and to remind people to support the British food industry; in turn supporting farmers through to restaurateurs.
We are so incredibly humbled by the response to our Egg and Spoon Race, although it will be quite a challenge to complete, especially with a real egg and not a wooden version! We are really looking forward to it and hope we can raise much needed awareness for all the phenomenal work that both Hospitality Action and Cornwall Air Ambulance do; smashing our funding target of £1,000,000, perhaps a bad choice of word there!”
