The South West’s answer to the Michelin Guide

March 19 2024

St. Ewe supports the Trencherman’s Awards 2024 in the creativity and innovation category.

The Trencherman’s Guide is the South West’s answer to the Michelin Guide and celebrates the glamour and theatre of extraordinary food in glorious locations, only featuring those establishments that meet the very highest quality criteria.

St. Ewe Free Range Eggs are thrilled to be sponsoring the award for Creativity and Innovation which is open to establishments who have gone above and beyond to deliver a unique and visionary dining experience.

‘St Ewe’s quality eggs are much-loved by many Trencherman’s chefs, so we’re thrilled to have them on board as a Trencherman’s Awards partner sponsoring the category for Creativity and Innovation.’

Salt Media are the team behind the guide having taken over the reins from acclaimed chef Michael Caines MBE in 2009 turning it from a small booklet featuring just 25 restaurants to a 200-page annual guidebook with around 120 restaurants in the region.

The guide is backed by some of the biggest names in the industry. Rick Stein calls it ‘A guide with teeth’ and TV food critic William Sitwell says: ‘Very few areas have a guide like Trencherman’s, which rivals Hardens or Michelin in terms of how it’s put together. The Trencherman’s Guide has really experienced food writers bringing their know-how and knowledge to it’.

Each year an annual awards ceremony is held which sees the finest in the industry coming together to celebrate the very best of the South West’s hospitality scene. This year the event will be held on April 29th at the historic Bovey Castle, with an evening of vintage glamour prizegiving and dinner cooked by Bovey Castle’s head chef Mark Budd, Scott Paton of ÀclèafPrawn on the Lawn chef-owner Rick Toogood and Andrew Swann of The Castle at Taunton.

“As an innovative Cornish based business it only feels natural to support the chefs and hospitality businesses across our region who are going above and beyond to innovate and come up with creative ways of showcasing the UK’s stunning produce.

Our eggs are produced from like-minded family farms across the UK with the Southwest our heartland and where our roots are firmly embedded. We are so proud to support the infrastructure of our business through the employment of many local families who all bring their strength and Cornish spirit to the job at hand, helping us to supply our multi-award-winning eggs to hospitality businesses across the region.

Nothing brings people together like good food, great company, and a wonderful atmosphere. Food businesses that survive and flourish do so because they are capable of change and with innovation comes opportunities to grow. We apply the same notion to our business growth and sponsoring the Trencherman’s Award category for Creativity and Innovation if a great privilege.”

Tens of thousands of votes have been cast, and St Ewe are delighted to be supporting the category finalists including:

Circa, Sandridge Barton
Holm, South Petherton
Lilac Restaurant & Wine Bar, Lyme Regis
Queen of Cups, Glastonbury
The Queen’s Arms, Corton Denham

To all the finalists the team at St Ewe wish them the very best of luck and hope they have a cracking night!
