Hen Nutrition

At St Ewe the hen comes first and she always will. We firmly believe that you are what you eat and a happy, healthy, well nourished hen produces high quality, delicious tasting eggs.

We work closely with the UK’s leading poultry feed specialists Humphrey Feeds & Pullets who have developed bespoke feeds for each of our brands, which has allowed us to bring our unique brands to the market such as Super Eggs and Rich Yolk.

Finding the perfect balance between levels of nutrition, energy and performance is what makes us unique and allows us to provide our girls with everything they need throughout their laying life.

Humphrey Feeds & Pullets have an uncompromising approach to quality and therefore only source the best natural raw ingredients which are chosen for the nutrients they provide, all of which come from known origins, allowing for consistent quality.

As well as a healthy and balanced diet our hens’ mental wellbeing is vital, so our girls are free to spend their days foraging and roaming in fresh countryside air, allowing them to display all of their natural and mischievous behaviours.

Egg Nutrition

It is a well known fact that eggs are exceptionally nutritious, great value for money and incredibly versatile; if any food deserves to be called a ‘superfood’ it’s eggs!

Making sure we get the correct vitamins and minerals each day is essential for our bodies to function healthily and to provide the nutrients for growth and repair of our vital organs, bones, teeth, skin, hair and nails. It is also particularly important for our mental health and overall wellbeing.

Eggs are naturally rich in vitamin D, B2 (riboflavin), B12, A and a number of additional B vitamins including folate, biotin, pantothenic acid and choline.

Vitamin D also known as the ‘sunshine vitamin’ because it is naturally produced by your body when it is exposed to sunlight, has particularly strong health benefits. Perhaps some of the most profound are; supporting the normal function of the immune system. Regulating the absorption of phosphorus and calcium in the body. Supporting the normal development of the teeth and bones; helping to avoid the potential for developing osteoporosis and osteomalacia, as well as helping to reduce depression
